The first phase of the £512m Edinburgh Trams project was undertaken by Carillion, to divert the utility cables and pipes from underneath the tram tracks. The utility works suffered unforeseen time delays which put significant pressure on project budgets.
Carillion contracted Human Recognition Systems to install MSite, their integrated biometric workforce management platform to provide accurate labour data into the payroll system. MSite was networked to 5 work sites across Edinburgh using 3G wireless technology and linked to one central reporting system, providing Carillion with details on which contractors and staff where at which sites, at what times and for how long.
The MSite Civils solution has been designed to meet the specific needs of civil engineering projects, with networked, wireless connections to ensure continuous, accurate workforce and health and safety reporting features at regularly moving construction locations, that don't necessarily have secure perimeters.
"It was a complicated project to deliver but Human Recognition Systems worked with us through the integration, installation and training to ensure that the system met all our expectations. We are now achieving real tangible value from the system."
